Everyone has experienced it before: Sooty wicks, only a little odor development when binding and wax on the edge of the glass that simply does not want to melt. Scented candles can be sensitive little ones.

But the good thing is, in many cases you can remedy this with the right care of your scented candle. We have put together the seven most important tips and tricks for caring for your scented candle:

1. When lighting your new scented candle for the first time, make sure that the surface of the wax has melted completely, i.e. up to the edge of the candle glass. In this way you prevent "wax tunnels" from forming during later firing processes - i.e. the wax does not melt all the way to the edge of the glass.

2. So that your candle does not start to soot, you should cut the wick back to a length of about 0.5 cm before each lighting.

3. Make sure that you place your candle in a place with little, ideally no, draft - drafts also ensure that a candle starts to soot and burns down faster than you want it to.

4. Be sure to protect the surface you place your candle on, for example by using a coaster. You should never place a scented candle in a glass on a glass surface without a base, otherwise the candle holder could heat up too much and burst.

5. So that you can enjoy the scent of your candle for a long time, you should never let it burn for more than 3 hours at a time.

6. It is best to use a candle snuffer to extinguish your candle. This prevents wick residue from getting into the liquid wax when blowing out and also reduces the afterglow of the wick.

7. Don't let your candle burn down completely - you should leave about five millimeters, even if it's difficult.
